Thomas Mann said that, but he probably wasn’t the first and he certainly won’t be the last.
This will be a short post because I’ve never seen an upside to discussing politics: political debates are mostly just restatements of unwavering beliefs.
It brings me no holiday joy to remind you how even something as universal as car buying has become tangled up with politics. I alluded to this in an earlier post, but here’s another take on it. From our friends at Strategic Vision comes this stellar chart showing political affiliations of buyers of different vehicle types:
(APT = Alternative Power Train, e.g. HEV, PHEV, BEV, and … fuel cells (sigh).)
You can draw your own conclusions from this one, so I won’t ramble on. I do wonder how a Rivian owner votes: a full-size APT pickup in the driveway must generate enough cognitive dissonance to send them into the arms of Lyndon LaRouche?1 And the use of the word “balanced” made me smile: I know this is not what SV meant, but I like the idea of balanced Americans. We could use more of them.
Dad Joke of the day: “I got a parking ticket the other day. Beats me why, the sign said ‘Fine for Parking.’”
Just kidding! By the way, RIP Lyndon.
